RABBI MARVIN HIER – DEAN & FOUNDER SIMON WIESENTHAL CENTER OF LOS ANGELES

RABBI MARVIN HIER is the founder and dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center & Museum of Tolerance. In 1977, Rabbi Hier came to Los Angeles to create the Simon Wiesenthal Center, named in honor of famed Nazi hunter, Simon Wiesenthal. Under his leadership, the Center has become one of the foremost Jewish human rights agencies in the world, with a constituency of more than 400,000 families, and offices throughout the United States, in Canada, Europe, Israel and Argentina. In 1993, an article in the Los Angeles Times noted that Rabbi Hier had made the Wiesenthal Center, “the most visible Jewish organization in the world” and, in 2007, and again in, 2008, an article in Newsweek named him the “Most Influential Rabbi in America.”

RABBI ABRAHAM COOPER

Rabbi Abraham Cooper is the associate dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles. He has been a longtime activist for Jewish and human rights’ causes on six continents. Since 1977, Rabbi Cooper has overseen the Wiesenthal Center’s international social action agenda and worldwide promotion of tolerance education. He is widely recognized as a pioneer and international authority on issues related to Digital Hate and Terrorism. Rabbi Cooper regularly meets with numerous influential religious and political leaders, and has coordinated international conferences at UNESCO, Berlin, Geneva and multi-faith conferences on religion and terrorism in Bali and Mumbai. He has testified before the United Nations, the United States Senate, the Japanese Diet, the French Parliament, and the OSCE.. His op-eds appear internationally in the secular and Jewish media. Newsweek/Daily Beast lists Rabbi Cooper together with Rabbi Hier as #8 among the “50 Most Influential Rabbis in the United States”. He is a founding member of Israel’s Global Forum on Anti-Semitism.

Dr. ERICA BROWN PROFESSOR AT GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY’S GRADUATE SCHOOL OF EDUCATION AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

Dr. Erica Brown is an associate professor at George Washington University’s Graduate School of Education and Human Development and the director of its Mayberg Center for Jewish Education and Leadership.  She previously served as the scholar-in-residence for The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, where she directed its Jewish Leadership Institute. She also held that position at the Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Boston. Erica was a Jerusalem Fellow, is a faculty member of the Wexner Foundation, an Avi Chai Fellow, winner of the Ted Farber Professional Excellence Award, is a recipient of the 2009 Covenant Award for her work in education and the 2012 Bernie Reisman Award (Hornstein Jewish Professional Leadership Program, Brandeis University). Erica has degrees from Yeshiva University, University of London, Harvard University and Baltimore Hebrew University. She lectures and writes widely on subjects of Jewish interest and leadership and lives with her husband and children in Silver Spring, Maryland. Erica is the author of 11 books
