Four Reasons You Should Travel for Sukkot

Hello dear readers,

What is your favorite time of the year to travel? Some people like a good summer vacation, when all the kids are off from school and the family can travel together. Some prefer a winter trip, around Chanukah time, when they can leave the snow behind and enjoy a warm environment when it’s winter back home. There are all sorts of occasions or seasons or holidays to travel for, but I wonder which of you share my favorite: the Sukkot vacation!

My favorite time of year to travel is Sukkot. Whether it’s a short drive upstate, flying to visit family on the west coast, or going international for a kosher Sukkot vacation, I love to have adventures with my family for Sukkot. Here are four reasons why:

  1. FINISHING OFF THE HIGH HOLIDAY SEASON. My second favorite time to travel is in the spring, for Pesach, but there’s one main difference between a Pesach vacation and a Sukkot vacation: I feel like I NEED a Sukkot vacation. Sukkot comes after a draining stretch of high holidays, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, so you have a lot of meals, cooking, and cleaning and then repeat. While getting ready for Pesach can be stressful, it’s only one week, while Sukkot comes at the end of a month.
  2. MEETING PEOPLE. Wherever you travel for Sukkot, you will be with people who probably had the same, stressful high holiday season. So you’ll get to have the same fun Sukkot experience with other people. If you’re traveling to see people you already know, it’ll be a fun reunion; if you’re traveling somewhere new, like a hotel in a new city, you’ll be able to make new Sukkot memories. Fun!
  3. ENJOYING NATURE. Fall is my favorite season. I love going apple picking, raking leaves and enjoying the cool crisp air outside. It’s a wonderful time to be outdoors before the harsh reality of winter arrives on our doorsteps (and if you live on the east coast as I do, that is quite the harsh reality!) So, fall is a great time to travel for Sukkot because you get to experience fall in new places. A lot of vacation destinations can be gross in the summer or freezing in the winter, but Sukkot vacations can be just right.
  4. SEEING THE WORLD. It’s a big world out there, and it’s good to see different parts of it.  Whether it’s a short drive away or a flight with multiple connections, there’s a lot to see and enjoy!

More soon,

Ariella
